The level of phosphates in these waters had been rising steadily for several years.<\/p>\n<p>To restore a standard level, the municipal authorities opted for dilution, by mixing this spring water with water supplied by a neighbouring authority.<\/p>\n<p>Following a call for tenders, the building of an interconnection network and automated facilities was entrusted to the Greater Metz RD.<\/p>\n<h2>A carefully developed project<\/h2>\n<p>Along the 2,600m of interconnection pipe (100mm-diameter cast-iron) the Greater Metz RD proposed to lay almost 1,600m of ZMU cast-iron tubes, protected by a concrete sheath, which would avoid the need for asphalting and enable the direct reuse of excavated soil.<\/p>\n<p>During negotiations, the RD also highlighted its ability to rely on its own resources and expertise for all the works to be executed: from the design of execution plans to the building of facilities and electromechanical aspects.<\/p>\n<p>This innovative and CSR-minded solution, rolled out in its entirety by a single entity, gave the bidder a technical, environmental and economic lead over competing bids.<\/p>\n<h2>Interconnection and more<\/h2>\n<p>Prior to its supply to local residents, the spring water is stored and chlorinated in a reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>In this reservoir, which also serves as the end point of the interconnection, the water could now be mixed at regular programmed intervals with the drinking water provided by the Meinsberg water authority, at an initial rate of 8m\u00b3\u00a0per day. The mixing process was automated thanks to the installation of 2 80mm-diameter motorised water gates and the creation of associated machinery by our electromechanical engineers.
