It is encircled by a network of 143 villages, spreading 20km out from the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bouak\u00e9 is the department\u2019s administrative centre and has 542,000 inhabitants in the city itself and more than 1.5 million if you count all the surroundings towns and villages. As part of the vast hydraulic restructuring programme launched by the country\u2019s Hydraulics Ministry, <\/span><b>SADE <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is laying nearly 65km of pipes between the water intake in B\u00e9oumi and Bouak\u00e9. Tapped from the River Bandama, the raw water will be routed via \u00d8 1,200 GRP tubes over 49.3km, then the treated water distributed via 14.6km of \u00d8 1,000 tubes (also GRP).\u00a0 The first delivery of pipes reached the port of Abidjan last January.
